Displaying Potted Plants

The avid gardener must be as creative as they are green. For retailers who sell houseplants displaying such items can be a challenge in itself. Plants are not like any other kind of decorative merchandise because they are alive. Houseplants need special care especially if they are one of the less common varieties with special requirements. Obviously the first priority of selling live plants is keeping them alive because no one would want to buy a dead plant. But a well-designed sales floor is almost as important. Rather than just lining up hundreds of plastic pots in a row it can be nice to show plants in display. This shows people how good the plants would look in their own home and makes the shop look better.

Bakers Stands

The bakers stand was probably originally intended to hold cooling pies in bakeries. Since they are made of metal there is much less of a risk of fire. However it was not long for some ambitious designer to realize that baker's stands have many more uses. They are of particular use to gardeners because their metallic construction is more weather resistant than wooden shelves. They still have the advantage of multiple level surfaces that can be used for organization of small objects such as house plants. The wrought iron inspired design is often inspired by nature which compliments house plants.

Metal Items

Metal items can be charming accents amid the greenery of house plants. The strong look of metal complements the earthiness of plants and orchids. Too much metal can be overbearing but in a garden setting certain touches can create a feeling of wonder and enchantment. There are many choices for metal decorative items available. Metal doorstops come in a variety of shapes and are excellent for propping doors that are better left open. Statuettes that are made of metal resemble many different creatures and designs. Even a metal votive holder can be placed between the boughs of a plant.

Furniture

Even if it is not being used to prop up a human being most pieces of furniture are excellent plant holders. This can be true of nearly any kind of furniture if one is creative about it and the quirky look really appeals to shoppers. A café table can just as easily hold a tray of flowers as a plate of hors devours and so can the café chairs. Metal shelving units are practically made for holding house plants because they are less sensitive to water.  Wall shelves are a charming option that makes use of a lot of extra space left over on the walls.

Garden Ornaments

Garden ornaments are integral for selling large amounts of house plants because they provide a tie in situation. Not only do they break up the look of rows of plants but they also remind customers how good they might look with their own plants. Garden ornaments come in many shapes and sizes oftentimes imitating the look of butterflies or flowers. For example the decorative item attached to the end of a stake can be stuck inside a pot to liven up the surrounding greenery. Ceramic and glass items are another way to enhance the natural look of a house plant.

Hanging Art

Every year at Christmas time millions of people hang ornaments from the tree to decorate the home or office for the holiday season. Many of them do not realize that hanging ornaments can be used with plants all year round. The hanging wind bell is an excellent example of an ornament that is used all year round. These can be hung from larger plants and small trees to catch the wind as they ring. Other pieces of hanging décor are similar to the ones seen at Christmas time but with a more generalized theme. Hearts, stars and birds are all shapes one might see in a hanging ornament that can always be used.
